Introductory Information
AEMG is currently hiring for the position of Associate Teaching Fellow. Successful candidates will be based at one of AEMG’s partner universities in China according to mutual agreement, discipline/major and on the needs of the universities (view AEMG map of branch locations on the home page).
The role of the Associate Teaching Fellow involves teaching academic skills to undergraduate students in China. For example, academic skills include: writing essays and research reports; practicing critical thinking; referencing and avoiding plagiarism. Placements with be working with local teachers to plan and facilitate provided curriculum. In addition, class management and assessment facilitation will be experienced. Utilising your discipline expertise, facilitate the teaching of academic skills. A core objective will be to engage students using discourse with relevant terms in English. As an Associate Teaching Fellow you may be invited to deliver a guest lecture in your disciplinary area.
The Academic Skills (ASP) is designed in part to afford a stronger collaboration between AEMG Academy, its partner universities and most importantly, our collective students. The ASP program endeavours to:
1) Provide an enriched student experience (normally to CAPs undergraduate students studying in China in English) through:
- Learning and academic skills development opportunities in English by English-speaking PhD candidates,
- In situ discipline discourse and prose practice in academic skills facilitated in English, and
- Familiarization and beginning immersion within discipline specific research cultures and paradigms.
2) Provide an international exchange through global opportunities that:
- Connect PhD candidates with overseas host universities academic teachers and researchers,
- Promote a global view to educational and academic skills development, and
- Build real opportunities for international research collaboration and outputs.
About you
Proficient English speaker with an adaptable personality, open to new approaches and ideas.
Demonstrated ability to understand and facilitate class activities in supporting students in the development of academic culture and skills.
Familiar with online technology, PCs, PowerPoint, learning management system and courseware, teaching resources for educational purposes.
Commitment of 7 to 15 weeks, commencing in November or March.
Essential Criteria
Current PhD candidate in any discipline.
Desirable Criteria
Experience with international non-native English speaking students, and interest in Chinese culture, languages, people and learning.

- Travel Insurance during the term of the contract,
- Fees associated with the Contractor’s China visa, and
- Domestic transfers from Chinese airport to the Contractor’s on campus accommodation.
